PERPLEXING TOWN HALL "SÉANCE SPÉCIALE" HELD FRIDAY JULY 10, 2009

No citizens were present to witness the strange new deal for the sewage-treatment land purchase

FRELIGHSBURG, 2009/07/13. A special public meeting was held Friday July 10, 2009, at the town hall, in order to approve a resolution to pay an additional $15,000.00 to the owner of the land behind the Catholic church property, where the sewage-treatment facility is planned.

The previously announced total land price was $162,000. The extra money is said to be in consideration of "damages" caused to the owner by delays by the town.

The special meeting was announced by means of a typed message posted at the town hall and at the Catholic church.

The above information was verified by Anne Pouleur at the town hall who assures us that this changing of the original land deal, and the announcement of the special meeting, were done according to the law.

One shocked citizen commented: "This is very strange. How could the agreement to buy the land, which was announced many months ago, now be suddenly changed? Surely there must have been a notarized offer-to-purchase for such a key part of Frelighsburg's $5-million-dollar infrastructure project! To not have had such a written agreement is unthinkable, since it would border on incompetence."

No citizens that Forum Frelighsburg spoke to were aware of the meeting in advance, even those who are following the sewer issue closely. We were not informed of this important meeting which we would have publicized electronically. The town hall has been invited to make use of ForumFrelighsburg.com for efficient and timely posting of important announcements.
