by eden muir [1.] Looking south along Main Street, early on a crisp autumn morning. The massive three-storey Missisquoi building still stands there today, its Mansard roof and ornamental details largely unchanged. The fascinating little false-facade building next to it is long gone, replaced by a parking lot. Chemin Verger Modele can be seen rising in the distance. (Click to expand photo.)

by eden muir [2.] Arthur Shepard's store. Several models of baby carriages, occupants and other unidentified. Note that this General Store is today the site of the Cantine (closed in 2008), next to the Shell gas station.

by eden muir [3.] Building on left - Capsey's Store and Post Office (after Ben Reynold's); right side (by tree), house occupied by Judd family; Hotel building, occupied in my time by the Emile Piette family; the next two brick houses are among the first buildings in Frelighsburg - the one next to the old hotel was the site of the first store in the village, in 1801 operated by Geo. Wallace, later by G.R. (Rollie) Marvin.

It was also the lodge rooms for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Sarah Mitchell once lived there, as a dressmaker 1903-04. She later lived across the road beside the Store and Post Office (this house not visible in picture). The square house in the background and across the bridge was once the home of the Archi Goyette family, now the site of the Fina Gas Station.

Capsey's Store in Frelighsburg: Following several moves about the village, the Post Office remained here for nearly 50 years.

by eden muir [4.] One time site of the Post Office in Frelighsburg. At the end of the street, left centre, is Spencer House, in the background and shadowed by the big pine tree is Henry Thompson's Feed Store, once the home of Uncle James Smith & Aunt Emily (Holden) Smith; Jack Frary's Store; next small building was at one time the store of Will Bockus and at this time also the site of the Post Office. Post master was George Barnes, of Meig's Corner. Next house, extreme right and behind the large maple, home of Dr. Downing. When this picture was taken, the store was operated by Jean Baptiste Chalifeux. (This postcard used in September, 1911).

by eden muir [5.] Capsey's Store in Frelighsburg. Mr. Capsey standing in front of building. The two girls in the picture are thought to be Daudelins. First names anyone?? The White house on the corner was the site of a former post office when it was the home of Dr. Elijah Rowell.
